Have you ever wondered what happens to your old carpet? When it's time for a fresh, new floor, the old, worn-out carpet has to go somewhere. But where? Old carpets have long been in giant piles of trash called landfills. But now, we have a much better, more exciting option: recycling!
At Pinnell's Carpet One Floor & Home, we're on a mission to help our planet and need your help. We’ve turned our warehouse in Angels Camp, CA, into a special drop-off spot where you can bring your old carpet to give it a new life. It's a super-powered way for you and your family to become recycling heroes!
Imagine your favorite toy car. After years of playing, maybe a wheel falls off or the paint gets scratched. Instead of throwing it away, what if you could take it apart and use the plastic to make a brand-new toy? That's precisely what carpet recycling is!
Old carpets are made of materials like plastic and fibers. We can separate these materials and turn them into useful new things through a cool scientific process.
Recycling your old carpet is a massive help for our Earth. It might seem like just one rug, but we can make an enormous difference when everyone pitches in.
Every square foot of carpet you recycle is a high-five to Mother Nature!
We are so excited to be part of the California Carpet Stewardship Program. We teamed up with the CARE (Carpet America Recovery Effort) group to make carpet recycling easy for everyone in Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. CARE helps set up recycling spots all over California, and we're proud to be one of over 80 locations helping protect our beautiful state.
CARE has placed a big trailer at our Pinnell's Carpet One warehouse, ready and waiting for your old carpet. When you drop it off, you're not just getting rid of old flooring—you're joining a statewide team of recyclers!
Ready to bring in your old carpet? Awesome! Following a few simple steps makes the process smooth and easy for our team. Think of it as a secret mission to prepare your carpet for its next adventure.
Step 1: Make Sure It's Dry
The recycling machines work best with dry carpet. If your old carpet got wet from a spill or rain, please let it dry completely before rolling it up.
Step 2: Clean Off Any Debris
Give the carpet a good shake or vacuum to remove dirt, dust, and other little bits. It doesn't have to be perfectly clean, but it should be free of loose debris.
Step 3: Separate the Carpet and Pad
Most carpets have a squishy layer underneath called a carpet pad. The carpet and the pad are recycled separately. Before you roll up the carpet, you'll need to pull the padding away from it. This is an excellent step for a grown-up to handle!
Step 4: Cut it into Manageable Sections
A giant roll of carpet can be very heavy and hard to handle. For safety and ease of transport, please have an adult cut the carpet into smaller, more manageable sections.
Step 5: Roll it Up!
Once it's cut, roll each section up tightly, just like a sleeping bag. This makes it much easier to carry and fit into the collection trailer.
You did it! Your old carpet is now ready for its recycling journey.
You can bring your prepared carpet to our special recycling location.
